Johnson DougMessage from the Superintendent

The Mission of the Dayton School District is to promote academic excellence, active citizenship and provide all students with the opportunity to become productive members of society. – 2012

During the 2016-2017 school year the Board of Directors expects to consider changes to the mission statement shown above. The purpose of any good mission statement is to make an attempt to predict the future and then align practices and decision making to reach the predicted future. The District believes its responsibility is to prepare graduates for a future that may include entering the workforce or acquiring more education and training.

Predicting the future is challenging and it will require the assistance of our entire community. While educators know much about a particular subject matter, business owners, parents, and others can help bridge the gap between academics and the world outside by helping the school system see the application of academics to work and innovation.

It is my hope that as we prepare for change I can work alongside others here at school and within our community to insure the District is prepared to support students as they prepare for our future.
