Mr. Bryan's 3rd grade class spent Halloween constructing towers with toothpicks and apples (from Warren Orchards) as part of an engineering science unit. Students were completing a STEM project called Witch Escape.  At the end of the scenario, they discovered the witch was making caramel apples to give to the trick-or-treaters.  The STEM challenge was to build the

tallest tower using only toothpicks and apple chunks.  The students first drew their tower and then built the tower.  As they were building, some discovered the design needed to be adjusted.  Many adjusted their design because the original design had flaws.  After an
amount of time passed, students measured the heights of their towers.
The tallest tower was 20".  Runner ups towers were 17".
