5 awards were given for the 2024 Hot Poetry Hanford Challenge contest and 3 were Dayton High School Seniors! Justina Abrahamson, Solomon Brenner and Logan Berg were chosen as 2024 Contest Winners with poetry regarding the Hanford Challenge, a 501 (c)3 organization bringing awareness to the cleanup efforts at the Hanford Nuclear Site.
The awards were received by English teacher, Martin Surridge at the 2024 Spotlight Gala on Friday, April 26. Each student received a $100 check from the organization. Poets wrote about the nuclear waste and the history of atomic energy and weapons in Richland. Their work is strong, creative, passionate and can be read on the website for the 2024 Hot Poetry.
