Mrs. McGhan’s first graders, along with Mrs. Bryan and Mrs. Ramirez’s second graders, created this beautiful, collaborative Kindness Quilt.

Children created their own quilt square that represented their thoughts on kindness after reading The Kindness Quilt by Nancy Elizabeth Wallace. Muslin fabric and fabric markers were initially purchased with grant funds, followed by additional donations for batting and fabric from staff members. A seventh-grade student used a design board, then joined our squares into a quilt. Third- and fifth-grade students stitched the quilt binding on a sewing machine, and the final hand-sewing was completed by first- and second-grade students.
Many thanks to the following volunteers for helping students complete this lovely fine arts project: Annabelle Fletcher, Hailey Mead, Nina Kromm, Aubree Jenkins, Elena Strak, Rhonda Yutzy, Pearl Dennis, Melody Ramsey, Dawn McGhan, and Jana Eaton. The final quilt remains with Mrs. McGhan, who donated generously to PTSO for elementary art supplies. Teachers plan to display the quilt at the Columbia County Fair this fall.
