Summer Student Employment Opportunity - Info from the Y - Dear all- Should you have students age 15 or older who’d like to consider a job at the Prescott Pool this summer, we are initiating our summer recruitment. We’ve been fortunate to have some fantastic young staff from Prescott and Waitsburg support the pool in the past, and we encourage Dayton youth to also apply. The Y is honored to manage the Prescott pool on behalf of the Prescott Parks and Rec department. Generally, the Prescott pool summer jobs extend from mid June (after school is out) to mid August. We are still finalizing the summer 2024 schedule. The Y provides American Red Cross training for students interested in serving as summer lifeguards or swim instructors. These are jobs that can carry a student through high school and college! Wherever there is a college or community pool there is always a need for qualified Aquatics staff! We are planning a “try your skills” functional review later this Spring. The purpose of this free weekend course is to provide youth encouragement and to help them assess if they’d like to pursue the full Red Cross training that is fully paid by the Y. Questions welcome! An update from our kitchen - Weather is affecting much of the country and has begun to take a toll on the lettuce harvest. Ms. Sofia is working to adjust our salad bar and keep things fresh and supplied according to what is available, thank you Ms. Sofia! An additional complication, one of our suppliers is experiencing a worker strike which will impact delivery of food, thank you for your patience as we work to plan for any disruption. Last but not least, our school closure last week caused changes to our current menu. Ms. Allicia is working diligently to keep everyone fed and happy and we couldn't be more grateful! Thank you Kitchen Staff for working so hard to feed and care for all of us!

Today we took part in the Great Shake Out, Earthquake and Evacuation drill. Student's and staff were alerted then listened to a minute-long recording that explained what to do and what to look for during an earthquake. After the drill we practiced the evacuation portion. Everyone did great and we are happy to report that all of our new tech and speakers, both inside and out, worked great.

Middle & High School Families - Student-led Conferences are coming up. Next week, October 25-27 are the days set aside for this valuable conference to take place. What are student-led conferences and how are they different from the traditional parent/teacher conference? Student-led conferences are all about Ownership, Communication and Collaboration between student, parent and advisor. The 20-minute session allows students to present their High School and Beyond Plan, share progress towards their goals, challenges they are facing and discussion around their strengths and weaknesses. Student-led conferences are a great way for students to participate in their learning through every stage. It allows for collaboration and support around our future’s most valuable resources, our students. Talk to your student to make sure they have confirmed the appointment time and be ready to engage, learn and support.
